I started DJing in 2008 after finally pulling the trigger on a small midi mixer. Music has always been a passion of mine dating back to the trance music of Paul van Dyke, Sasha, Armin van Buuren and Tiesto in middle school.
I absolutely love music and an environment that encourages dance because you see people in pure, authentic enjoyment where nothing else matters but the rhythm and groove.
My favorite dance genres are trance and disco house although I can't resist the chill-tempo of jazz and lounge music if the mood is right. I picked up music because of loved listening to it - my grade school music teacher actually made me despise musical instruments. It wasn't until electronic music that I actually started being an avid music lover.
My very first DJ show was during the summer of 2009 at Spin Night Club in Minneapolis. David Guetta was the headliner that night and after seeing the light production, experiencing the incredible atmosphere, and jivving to the music he was playing I was instantly hooked. It was later that summer that I began DJing. Within a year I owned my own set of Pioneer turn tables and CDJs and have been continually upgrading ever since.
I have always loved techno music. From back in the day when Napster was still free, I downloaded and listened to Electronic music. That being said, I am 100% a lover of good Electro House. Beats that sound a little 'darker' and 'mechanical' are what I am really into (Wolfgang Gartner style). Even so, I have much appreciation for all sorts of Electronic genre including House, Progressive, Trance, Dub step, Trap.
My music career began back in 5th grade, when I started playing the Alto Saxophone and continued throughout high school. While in high school I joined every band I could: Concert band, pep band, jazz band, and marching band. I think that my musical experience translated into being able to pick up the art of DJing quickly. I DJ on almost a daily basis now and watch videos online to continuoulsy try new tricks and new styles. Creating music and new sounds with your hands in a live manner is something I truly love.
It was during my senior year of high school, Avicii released his new single Levels. I was instantly hooked. I managed to get my hands on a half-working, Hercules RMX mixer and taught myself how to mix through watching Youtube videos. It was a new passion for me-- something different than the piano, guitar, and saxophone I grew up playing.
To this day, four years later, I still have the same passion! I do have a weak spot to smooth tropical house with a nice saxophone to top it off. However, I would say my specialty for mixing is in Future House and 90's-2000's Hip Hop.
My love for DJing started out during my junior year of college, when I met Matt (Passaria DJs Co-Founder) at the local campus radio station.
At the station, we both got to talking about music, specifically, how the music at school events was always the same and how nothing caught the attention of participants. We came up the idea to start a club on campus focused on providing music for events. The idea soon became reality when we formed the on campus club "Campus DJs", and from there my love of music and DJing events kept growing.
Following college graduation Matt and I decided to continue our passion for music and for providing musical services, and thus Passaria DJs was formed.
Currently, my taste in music genres is quite varied, but trance, house, rock and rap are certainly some of my favorites.
